This in itself was remarkable. But what happened next truly made Einstein a global superstar: his work was used to make theoretical predictions that were later proven to be true. During a solar eclipse on 29 May 1919, scientists looked to see if starlight was actually deflected by the gravity of the sun as Einstein had predicted. And Einstein’s equations worked perfectly. Einstein, now with the mysterious powers to predict the stars and planets, became a global celebrity.
